Stabilized acrylic acid is UN 2218, class 8, subsidiary hazard 3, packing group II. Its hazard identification number is 839 and its tunnel code is (D/E). (ADR 3.2, Table A, UN 2218, Volume 1, pages 403–404).
| Location | Required markings |
|---|---|
| Tank-container | Placards 8 and 3 on both sides and both ends. (ADR 5.3.1.2, Volume 2, page 266). |
| Tank-container sides | Orange plates showing 839 above 2218 on both sides under the standard arrangement. (ADR 3.2, Table A, UN 2218, Volume 1, page 404; ADR 5.3.2.1.2, Volume 2, page 268). |
| Transport unit | Orange plates at the front and rear. If the container’s numbered side plates are obscured, repeat them on the vehicle sides. (ADR 5.3.2.1.1–1.2, Volume 2, page 268; ADR 5.3.2.1.5, Volume 2, page 269). |
| Vehicle placards | Additional placards 8 and 3 on both sides and the rear only if the container placards are not visible externally. (ADR 5.3.1.3, Volume 2, page 266). |
Alternative: when carrying only this dangerous substance and no non-dangerous goods, numbered 839/2218 front and rear plates may replace the numbered side plates. (ADR 5.3.2.1.6, Volume 2, page 269).
If the actual product meets the aquatic environmental-hazard criteria, also apply the environmental mark and add “ENVIRONMENTALLY HAZARDOUS” to the transport document. (ADR 5.3.6, Volume 2, page 274; ADR 5.4.1.1.18, Volume 2, page 280).
Before departing with the empty, uncleaned tank-container:
An ADR transport document is required—not a separate “empty-uncleaned certificate.” Use the empty tank-container description below; the dangerous-goods quantity need not be stated. Alternatively, when returning to the original consignor, reuse the outward document, delete its quantity and replace it with “EMPTY, UNCLEANED RETURN.” (ADR 5.4.1.1.6.2.2–1.6.2.3, Volume 2, page 279).
The HTML contains a transport-document template and an optional departure checklist. Complete the placeholders before use. Add the required official-language version for the dispatching country alongside English unless an applicable agreement provides otherwise. (ADR 5.4.1.4.1, Volume 2, page 285).
