UN 0081 cannot normally be transported in a tank-container. It is classified as 1.1D, and its Table A entry assigns neither a portable-tank instruction nor an ADR tank code. (ADR 3.2, Table A, UN 0081, columns 3b, 10 and 12, Volume I, pp. 284–285).
- ADR tank-container: no tank code means tank transport is not permitted—adding placards or orange plates does not make it permissible. (ADR 3.2.1, explanation of column 12, Volume I, p. 276).
- Portable tank: without an assigned instruction, transport is permitted only with competent-authority authorization under 6.7.1.3. That authorization must be checked before determining the marking arrangement. (ADR 3.2.1, explanation of column 10, Volume I, p. 276).
